The best thing about street photography is that it is possible for the final viewer of a print to see more than the original photographer. One of the great things about a city is that more things are happening, even within a small neighborhood, at any moment than any human can comprehend. Photography allows us to freeze one of those moments and study all of the small dramas that were taking place.
My original career was as a photojournalist. Though for the past decade I have concentrated on landscape, nature and wildlife photography, I do documentary street shooting whenever the opportunity arises, and especially when I'm traveling. One such opportunity was on a recent workshop which I conducted in China, in October, 2005.
Just Street Photography is a group created by tozzo in April 2005 to showcase street photographs created by Flickr members. This is not a photo dumping ground... but at the same time, we do not remove photos like some other groups do...
Our aim is to promote Street Photography and to continue to explore its possibilities. All the photographers featured here have been invited to show their work because they have the ability to see the unusual in the everyday and to capture the moment. The pictures remind us that, if we let it, over-familiarity can make us blind to what’s really going on in the world around us.
This site is dedicated to helping street photographers free themselves from any restrictions and find their own approach while discovering new avenues to just enjoy street photography
This weekend, spend some time outdoors, explore a new neighborhood, hone your portrait-taking skills, make strangers smile, and walk away with some amazing photographs. Sound good? Then we’ve got the perfect photo project for you!
Public Life is a meeting point for international street photographers. Street photography is one of the most vivid, complex and expressive forms of photography. Capturing both people and context, situations as they happen, in one picture requires a good eye, the ability to see and compose a picture in a few seconds. Impartiality and some luck are needed as well. Street photography is a passion, it does not aim at exposing people but wants to capture the essence of a moment. A moment which might pass much too fast.
