Do I like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50? Yes, quite a lot. Am I disappointed that Panasonic stuffed a tiny 10 Megapixel sensor into it and then turned the noise reduction to eleven? Very much so. The FZ50 is definitely the best designed ultra zoom out there, and it’s a real pleasure to use. It’s also the largest and most expensive of the bunch—in fact, it’s even bigger and more expensive than some digital SLRs! If you’re a person who doesn’t plan on taking a lot of high ISO shots then I can certainly recommend this camera…
The Panasonic L1 is more fun than the other Four-Thirds cameras we’ve tested. The interface is appealing – it’s not simply nostalgic to use an aperture ring, it’s quick and comfortable too. We’re delighted that someone – anyone – is including a fast, well-built kit lens. Panasonic’s image stabilization continues to be a big advantage for the company. In practice, the Panasonic Lumix FZ50 left an excellent impression. It truly is a pleasant camera to work with; comfortable in your hand and solid to the touch. In fact, it feels just as if you were working with a digital SLR camera. However, the Panasonic FZ50 is a whole lot cheaper than a DSLR with this type of focal point and image stabilisation! This certainly makes the Panasonic FZ50 worth considering…
I have mixed feelings about this new Lumix model. While offering some awesome features, and a wealth of exposure controls, the higher noise and poor movie mode quality is disappointing. And, with an MSRP of US$499.95, it’s also a bit overpriced. Especially when you consider some of the alternative 10-megapixel models, like Canon’s PowerShot A640 which can be had for about $100 less…
Panasonic has put together a nice digital package, offering good image quality, speedy performance and plenty of exposure options for the entire family. The 6-megapixel Fine images have plenty of resolution to create beautiful 13x19-inch prints or larger. With an MSRP of $US279.95 it’s a bit more expensive than some of the other competitors out there , however, it does offer a good value for a capable 6- megapixel model…
