So once again it’s a case of evolution with the new PowerShots delivering higher resolutions, faster ISOs and bigger screens than their predecessors. The previous models may have been ideal for beginners wanting to grow or enthusiasts wishing to compliment a DSLR, but the big question as always is whether the increased resolution really offers any benefit or worse, comes at the cost of compromised noise levels? Like most Nikon cameras, the build quality is impeccable. The S7c has an all-metal body finished in an attractive matt black with chrome trim, and has a nicely understated design. The body has a wave-like shape, with a smooth curve running the length of the front panel and reprised on the left-hand trim. This certainly makes the Panasonic FZ50 worth considering…
I have mixed feelings about this new Lumix model. While offering some awesome features, and a wealth of exposure controls, the higher noise and poor movie mode quality is disappointing. And, with an MSRP of US$499.95, it’s also a bit overpriced. Especially when you consider some of the alternative 10-megapixel models, like Canon’s PowerShot A640 which can be had for about $100 less…
