Samsung Electronics America has extended its popular SL-Series with the introduction of four new models, comprising two 12.2 mega-pixel and two 10 mega-pixel digital cameras. Stylish and advanced, the new SL-Series models elevate the stature of the user-friendly family of digital cameras, allowing consumers to experience higher-end features and performance at more affordable price points.

Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, the number one worldwide brand of professional LCD display products, announced today the addition of four new digital photo frames to its existing line of award-winning display products. Available September 1st, the SPF-85H and the WiFi-enabled SPF-85V have an 8-inch screen and are offered with an estimated street price of $129.99 and $199.99, respectively. For those wanting a larger screen, two 10-inch digital photo frames will be available. The SPF-105P will be offered for an estimated street price of $199.99 on October 1st and the WiFi-enabled SPF-105V for an estimated street price of $289.99 on November 1st. These digital photo frames provide fantastic image quality that is now more affordable and can be purchased through Samsung’s authorized channel partners.

“As with most industries producing consumer goods, digital camera companies will often make the most of their investment in research and development by launching several very similar models, reusing the same basic design and sharing most of their components and features, but differing in a few details to produce a range of distinct products. Sometimes the result can be surprising. For example the Panasonic TZ3 differs from the TZ2 only in the size of the monitor screen and an extra megapixel of resolution, but the result is a significantly better camera. However sometimes the surprise works the other way. Samsung has two very similar cameras in the 8.1-megapixel NV8 and today’s camera, the 10.1-megapixel NV15, but in this case adding more megapixels has not produced the desired effect.”

Samsung today announced the launch of two new entry-level digital cameras - the 7.2 mega-pixel S760 and the 8.1 mega pixel S860.  The two new models extend the range of Samsung’s S-Series, which sets a new standard when it comes to today’s user friendly point and-shoot digital cameras.

The camera’s performance is adequate, but not particularly brilliant. It starts up in just under two seconds, which is acceptable for a camera in this class, and the autofocus is reasonably quick in good light. Despite the presence of a seemingly adequate AF assist lamp however, focusing in even slightly low light is very unreliable, usually simply announcing “Low Light!” with a big banner across the monitor. It will still take a picture in this situation, but it may not be focused correctly.
